Elizabeth Strout Visiting Missouri
Elizabeth Strout, author of Amy and Isabelle, is coming next week for a visiting writer residency at the University of Missouri-Columbia, which is, of course, home to The Missouri Review. As a PhD candidate in fiction, I’m looking forward to meeting Ms. Strout, hearing her read and also her thoughts on writing. As a fan– someone who recently read Ms. Strout’s lovely first novel— I’m interested in talking to her about how she constructed a story of a mother and daughter (Isabelle and Amy) that swooped so much wider than that, to be a story of the town they live in (Shirley Falls) and life outside the town as well.
If you’re in the Columbia area, come see Elizabeth Strout. She’s giving a reading Thursday, 4/15 at 7:00 PM and presenting a lecture Friday, 4/16 at 4:00 PM. Both free and open to the public. The University of Missouri’s excellent Center for Literary Arts can provide specifics.
