On Lotteries and Candy
In his recent Web exclusive, Scott Kaukonen explains with wit and eloquence that book contests are “as anyone will tell you, somewhere between playing the lottery and giving candy to children—you might get lucky, but you shouldn’t expect to see your money or your candy again.”
I am delighted to report that this morning, Scott learned that he will indeed be seeing his candy and his money. Not from Zoo Press. Rather, The Ohio State University Press has selected Scott’s manuscript as the winner of their annual short fiction prize. OSU Press will publish Scott’s first collection of stories in spring ’05.
It’s a very happy turn of events for a terrific and deserving writer. Set your watches for next spring, and keep an eye out for Scott’s book.
