Deborah-Anne Tunney’s workhas been published in several journals, including Descant, Grain and the Antigonish Review. Through the Humber School for Writers she has worked with Isabel Huggan and gratefully acknowledges her inspired mentorship. She recently completed a book of linked stories titled For the Time Being, which includes “Nelson Street.” With her family, Andre and Matthew, she lives and works in Ottawa, Canada. [2009]

Nelson Street

June told her mother about this woman, how she waited in her front yard in order to speak with her father, and how she’d smile with her “big fat lips.” But the mother only laughed and said, “Well, aren’t you the little spy?”
