Sharon F. Doorasamy is a writer and editor living in North Carolina. She is also a former journalist and fellow of the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at Oxford University. In 1991, she traveled to South Africa for the first time, during a nine-month backpacking trip across eighteen countries in sub-Saharan Africa by truck, train, boat, plane, and foot. She returned in 1995, less than a year after the end of apartheid, to write for two years as a fellow of the Institute of Current World Affairs. Last year she began working in her husband’s immigration law office, chronicling the stories of asylum seekers, Dreamers, and undocumented people hoping to pursue the dream of America.
