Shala Erlich, a practicing psychiatrist in Bellingham, Washington, has published short fiction and nonfiction in Lilith and Yemassee Journal. She is at work on a novel that follows a psychiatry resident (not the one in this story) through a single night shift. Her two children have recently launched from home—a bittersweet milestone.
